Serve Inside Christ Church

Adult Ministry (small group leader, special events, resource organizer, etc.)

Serve in the Community

You may already be serving in the community. If you are, we can help you develop your ability to use that service to becoming living proof of God's love, one person at a time.
 
We have relationships with the community agencies listed below. If you are interested in serving with one of these agencies, check the box and someone will contact you.
 

Breckinridge-Franklin Elementary (tutor, teacher appreciation)

Breckinridge-Franklin provides literacy-based education and an extensive mathematics curriculum. Students at Breckinridge-Franklin participate in the Communications Magnet Program, which includes a newspaper and a daily television broadcast entirely written and produced by students.

Cabbage Patch Settlement House (homework helpers, special events/short term projects)

This non-profit, Christian organization exists to empower families and children to be self-sufficient by helping them maximize their spiritual, social, emotional, physical, moral, economic and educational potential. For over 98 years, The Cabbage Patch Settlement House has helped Louisville's disadvantaged children and youths eliminate the boundaries of poverty and ease the trials of growing up in the inner city.

Choices, Inc. (maintenance, administration and development)

Choices, Inc. helps women rebuild their lives by providing transitional housing and case management services at three facilities: Norma's House, Marijane Toney House and Marti's House. They primarily minister to women and children affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, homelessness, substance abuse and mental illness. Approximately 70 percent graduate from this facility into stable, nontransition housing.

Day Spring (event planning, landscaping and grounds work)

Day Spring provides stable and secure residential housing and support services for adults with mental retardation, helping individuals develop their maximum potential as they live in community as an extended family.

Family Scholar House (mentoring, tutoring)

Family Scholar House is changing lives, families, and communities through education. Their mission is to end the cycle of poverty by giving single-parent students the support they need to earn a four-year college degree.

Fuller Center/Helping Hands Ministry (answer phones, construction)

Fuller Center is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide. By forming partnerships with local organizations, The Fuller Center provides the structure, guidance and support that communities need to build and repair homes for the impoverished among them.

Habitat for Humanity (construction, budget tutors, childcare)

Christ Church is an annual sponsor or co-sponsor for a home through Habitat for Humanity. Through this partnership, Christ Church joins with other United Methodist congregations in helping low-income families build and own their own homes.

Kavanaugh Life Enrichment Center (gardening, maintenance)

Kavanaugh Life Enrichment Center is a retreat and conference center of the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Center was founded in 1875 by Bishop H. Kavanaugh who had a dream to carve out a piece of God’s creation and maintain it as a place for ministry and renewal. Kavanaugh’s dream on 55 acres of creation is affectionately referred to as “holy ground.”

Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth (clerical work, special events)

Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth is a Christian service agency annually serving over 780 youth from all counties in Kentucky with histories of abuse, neglect, abandonment or family trauma.  They believe that every individual is an individual of worth, entitled to God’s gift of wholeness of life. The work they do provides professional counseling to young people to help them heal and build a brighter future for themselves.

Portland Promise Center (tutoring, mentoring)

This thriving, faith-based community development center in the heart of Louisville's Portland neighborhood provides individuals and families with the resources they need to anchor their lives to a firm foundation of faith and to build futures filled with hope.

St. Matthews Area Ministries (food pantry, Meals on Wheels)

St. MAM is the community ministry for the 40207 zip code, consisting of 13 area congregations which combine resources to meet various needs in the area, including: emergency assistance (financial, food, clothing), child development, early essential resources for infants and toddlers, blood drives, youth diversion services and family support.

VA Medical Center (visitation, clerical)

The VA Hospital has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. They consider it their privilege to serve health care needs in any way they can. Services are available to more than 166,000 veterans living in a 35-county area of Kentucky.

Wesley Manor (gardening, visitation)

Wesley Manor is a senior retirement community which offers all levels of care. The campus consists of patio homes, assisted living, memory support care and skilled and nursing care. Its mission is to serve its residents and families with a dedicated and professional staff in a nurturing Christian environment.

West End School for Boys (tutor, cook)

West End School opened its doors in 2005 because of the growing need for alternative forms of education, particularly for the young men in our community. For many of these students, the middle school years are a transitional ‘tipping point’ both socially and academically. Boys especially are at higher risk for almost every index of failure: academic, achievement, truancy, dropout rates, school suspensions and expulsions, delinquency, and incarceration.
