Passage: The Gospel According to Matthew Matthew 20:1-16
On the second week of our series God's Neighborhood: On Earth as it is in Heaven, we turn to Jesus’ surprising parable of the laborers in the vineyard in Matthew 20:1–16.
Jesus challenges our assumptions about fairness, entitlement, and who deserves what. The human condition teaches us to keep score and to measure what we have earned and what others have received. But God’s radical grace can seem downright absurd by those standards. What if the blessings we receive are not entitlements to defend, but gifts to receive with gratitude? Where might God be inviting us to open our hands and hearts and trust that there is enough grace, dignity, and belonging for every neighbor?
